The primary mission of the prison ministry is to show God's love to those who are incarcerated. We do this mainly by conducting Bible study classes and by writing to prisoners. The Bible study classes are held every Wednesday night at Dawson State Jail and at Lew Sterret Justice Center. The prisoners who attend are generally men who are acquainted with God, but in some cases are not yet believers. For many of these men this is the first solid Bible teaching they have had. With these men we focus on such important teachings as God's love, God's forgiveness, and the need to live a life of obedience to God. From time to time we also have the joy of leading someone to Christ during the class.
Opportunities are available for men and women who feel called by God to help with these or other Bible study classes. Sadly, a growing number of inmates in our correctional facilities are women but we do not currently have anyone to teach them.
For those who do not feel called to teach in the jails and prisons, opportunities are available to represent God's love by writing to one or more prisoners as pen pals. The men and women selected are Christians who would be greatly encouraged by hearing from another Christian on a regular basis. Our faithfulness in writing to these people teaches them about God's love and faithfulness in a practical way.
If you are a member of our church and feel called to participate in this ministry, or if you would like more information about possible ways to serve, please contact Duke Clark via email.
